10 Podcasts To Listen To Today!
Since starting my new job, I've stopped driving to work and begun taking the train every day.
My commute is about 30 minutes on the train and then a 15 minute walk up from the station. At first I was just listening to music every day but... I have to say it got old fast. A girl can only change up her playlist so often, and I'm not willing to use my data to stream radio.
So I decided to take the plunge and finally start listening to podcasts, whether to expand my knowledge, laugh, or just zone out and listen to some interesting conversations.
It didn't take long before I was hooked.
It started with funny (and popular) pods, but has since evolved into industry and general knowledge pods, political pods, food pods, inspiring pods, and pods geared toward millennial women.
The thing I love most about listening to podcasts is that even if they're long (and some of them are!) I can pick them up again after work, or when I'm working on something slow to have as background noise. No listening to radio talk only to miss out on the ending when you arrive at your destination; it's all there waiting for you next time you press play!
Today I wanted to give you a list of some of my favourite styles of podcasts, and the pods I listen to on my commutes! I'd also love some recommendations so if you have any please leave them in the comments below!
1) Funny Podcasts
How Did This Get Made? - I love movies so when Kris and I found this podcast it wasn't long before we'd heard every episode! Listen to three actors talk about some of the WORST movies ever made, sometimes with an awesome guest, and try to find the answer to the question "How did this get made?"
The most recent episode was about an 80s power rock band... who are also ninjas. Yep.
My Favorite Murder - If true crime isn't your thing, you probably want to skip this one. But if you're a Cold Case afficianado and likes to laugh, and you're NOT listening to this... I mean just start.
Hosts Karen and Georgia are hilarious, and yet strong advocates of victims rights/justice, talking each week about recent and historical murders in a way that has you wanting to listen to more. It's no surprise this is one of the TOP podcasts right now.
The Dollop - A bi-weekly (now weekly? it's hard to keep up) American History podcast where one host (Dave Anthony) tells a story to his friend (Garreth Reynolds) who doesn't know what the topic is. This zany idea for a podcast is hilarious, these two comedians have great comedic timing, and you'll actually learn something along the way!
2) Informative Podcasts
Ted Talks Daily - We all love TED, so take it on the go with you and listen to some of their more recent talks about everything from the body, to space, to scientific research, to the importance of art!
Stuff You Should Know - One of my favourites! And also one of the oldest Podcasts on the market. The hosts pick a topic from the How Stuff Works website (also worth a visit) and discuss it for about 1 hour (perfect for the commute!). Learn a bout everything from Stockholm Syndrome to how stuttering works, to the history of toilet paper.
If you love odd facts, or are looking for ice breaker topics for parties, this podcast might be your new best friend.
3) Podcasts with Great Guests
The Joe Rogan Experience - Full disclosure: Joe Rogan is not for everyone. His podcasts can be 3 hours long, he is sometimes drunk and/or high, and he talks a LOT about UFC.
BUT, persevere because this is actually one of the more interesting podcasts on my list. Joe has done over 1000 episodes and has talked with EVERYONE. Political pundits, bloggers, senators, athletes, other stand up comedians, scientists, inflammatory figures. Once you've listened to a few of his pods you begin to realize he'll play devils advocate (or a staunch neutral) to get his guest to really open up, and some of the conversations are FASCINATING.
So pick and choose on this one, but try out a few (the Lance Armstrong one is amazing)
The Tony Robbins Podcast - I mean, this one had to make the list. Tony doesn't always host this podcast, sometimes it's someone from his team, but it is ALWAYS interesting.
Do better, work smarter, achieve your potential. If you're on your way to work and need to feel EMPOWERED when you walk in the door, this podcast should be on your list.
4) Podcasts for Millennials
The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast - Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential and her husband Michael Bosstick, sit down and hash out every topic under the sun. Diet, exercise, brow shaping, travel, starting a business, financial independence, workplace etiquette. No topic is off limits and they are pretty candid with limited edits and cuts in their discussion.
They advocate realness, and I think they deliver!
Almost 30 Podcast - This podcast is fairly new but it's quickly becoming one of my favourites. Hosts Lindsay and Krista talk health, wellness, spirituality and sexuality; a view from the world of a woman who is ALMOST (but not quite) 30.
Since I'm at this age myself (sigh) this podcast really speaks to me. While I'm not with them on EVERY topic, it honestly sounds a little bit like sitting down with your friends and having a funny discussion about dating, or your fitness routine, or your motivations and plans. A great podcast to zone out to, and nod along with.
Pursuit With Purpose - If you're a blogger, you probably know Melyssa Griffin from her "Pinfinite Growth" course, or her "Blog to Biz" hive. Well in the last few months she started a podcast about pursuing your purpose. Talking to entrepreneurs, influencers, motivational speakers about what get's them MOVING and how her listeners can gain inspiration from their stories.
Think of it as similar to the Tony Robbins podcast, but directed at the millennial who hustles!
What did you think of my list!?!?!?!
Do you listen to any of the above pods? Do you have any recommendations for me (seriously I would love them!). Tell me all about it in the comments below!
