My Home Is Really Messy Today (and that's okay!)

I pride myself on being an organized person.

Overwhelming mess makes me cringe, I tend to have a plan for EVERYTHING, and I will admit to being a bit of a micro manager (I'm working on it!)

I'm good at throwing things out, I actually like to vacuum and I believe in making my bed every day.

But boy oh boy can our home get messy!

As I write this post, there is mail by the front door, dishes in the sink, laundry drying in our living room and both of our "work stations" show signs of hours of work (glasses of water, snacks, papers, laptops)

Oh and my vanity is completely cluttered.

So here's the truth:

The truth is that just because I'm organized, doesn't mean I'm ALWAYS clean.

Aside from blogging I work a full time job, commute 2 hours a day, do most of the cooking (really for the best) and need to prioritize my health, wellness and relationship somewhere in between.

In short, I'm your average nearly-30 woman with a busy schedule. And here's what I've decided:


Seriously, sometimes you just need to cut yourself some slack. If you work, side hustle, manage a relationship, family ties and friendships, are in school, take care of kids, or focus on fitness and wellness... it's 100% ok if your home looks like a bit of a sty.

It's better to take a walk after dinner with your spouse than to spend time agonizing over clutter. It's better to take the extra 30 minutes to call your mom than to dust.

It's more important to eat well and enjoy long conversations after dinner, than to jump up and do the dishes! 

Prioritizing the cleanliness of your space is important. Sooner or later that toilet needs to get cleaned, but if you're stressing out because every little thing is not in place then you're never going to be happy. 

Things will ALWAYS be out of place.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your mental health is to let go a little bit of the areas of your home that aren't perfectly tidy; to instead read a book or get outside.

So don't clean up that clutter pile straight away. Let a day go between dishes, and don't worry if your bedroom is messy when people come over (just close the door!).

If your home is really messy today, I want you to just walk away from it. Embrace it as the mess that comes from living your life and do something that makes you happy.

Tomorrow is another day, clean it then!
