Christmas Cocktails

Fa la la la la, la la la la!

The other day my mother and I got to talking. With all of the events we've got coming up over Christmas (many of which we will be hosting), we decided that we need to come up with some signature Christmas Cocktails to serve our guests.

I mean, anyone can serve rum and eggnog (something I've never particularly enjoyed)... we wanted to get FESTIVE; candy cane rimmed glasses festive.

I quickly jumped on Pinterest and began scouring for cocktail recipes! Below are a few that I've decided are a "must try" on this year's drink list. For more recipes and other holiday delights, follow me on Pinterest (click here)!

#1: Holiday Wine Spritzer

  • 1 bottle Kenwood Chardonnay, chilled
  • 1 liter cranberry ginger ale, chilled
  • 3 cups cranberry juice, chilled (or juice cocktail if you like it sweeter!)
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 3 cups frozen mixed berries (I used raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries)
  • 1 lemon, washed and sliced
  1. Pour all ingredients into a large pitcher. Serve chilled.

#2: Partridge in a Pear Tree

  • 1½ oz pear vodka
  • ½ oz lemon juice
  • ½ oz simple syrup (or agave nectar)
  • Champagne
  • Rosemary, cut into 1½ inch sprigs
  1. Place one rosemary sprig in each glass.
  2. Combine vodka, lemon juice and simple syrup (or agave) in a shaker over ice. Shake well, and strain over rosemary. Top with champagne. Serve and enjoy!

#3: Cranberry and Rosemary White Sangria

  •  2 apples, granny smith and a braeburn
  • 1 heaping cup of fresh cranberries
  • 1 large sprig of fresh rosemary, extra for garnish
  • 1 bottle of Pinot Grigio
  • 1/2 cup of white grape juice
  • 1/4 cup of sugar, more for garnish
  • 1 can of club soda
  1.  Sangria is a fairly simple recipe. It’s pretty much chop, pour, stir, and drink!

#4: Cranberry Ginger Fizz Cocktail

  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • ½ orange, cut into slices
  • 1½ cups dry gin - Bombay Sapphire, Beefeater or Tangueray suggested
  • 1 cup chilled Ginger Ale
  • 4 mint springs
  1.  Bring sugar and water to a boil in a medium saucepan, stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat; pour off all but one cup of syrup, reserving any extra for another use.
  2. Heat the syrup to a boil and then reduce heat to medium. Add the cranberries and simmer for 2-3 minutes until they just begin to burst. Remove from heat and let cool in syrup.
  3. Place 2 Tablespoons drained cranberries and 6 Tablespoons cranberry syrup in a large pitcher; add the lemon wedges and orange slices.
  4. Using a muddler or wooden spoon, vigorously mash the fruit.
  5. Stir in gin and let steep for at least 5 minutes.
  6. Strain into a medium pitcher.
  7. Fill 4 glasses with crushed ice and ¼ cup ginger ale.
  8. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and then pour half the cranberry mixture into the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 seconds, strain liquid into two glasses. Repeat.
  9. Mound additional ice on top of each glass and garnish with 3 candied cranberries and a mint sprig

#5: Christmas Coffee Cocktail

  • 4 oz strong coffee
  • 1 1/2 oz amaretto liqueur
  • 1 1/2 oz coffee liqueur
  • 1 oz butterscotch schnapps
  • 1 oz creme de cocoa
  • fresh whipped cream
  • grated chocolate, for garnish
  1. Combine strong coffee and liqueurs in a glass. Stir to combine and top with fresh whipped cream. Garnish with grated chocolate.
  2. Serve warm or over ice.
