Slow Cooked Curried Sweet Potato and Chicken

I know it's still August, but I'm getting really excited for fall.

Everything about fall makes me happy: the food, the fashion, the crisp air, apple picking, hiking, all the colours... plus my birthday!

Maybe it's because labour day is only a week away and I've started my end-of-summer-purge-of-shirts-I-didn't-wear, but tonight I decided to try a meal with a fall feel. Sweet potato, red onion and chicken in the slow cooker with some curry and ginger.

Lemon Cilantro and Onion Salad

I find salads come in one of two varieties: Epic and Lack Luster...

This salad is ANYTHING but lack luster! If you're looking for an "Epic" level salad to serve up with some kind of citrus-y based meal (for example, my Lemon Orange and Herb Roasted Chicken dish), this is the salad you're going to want to make!

Plus... Cilantro! Need I say more?

Garlic Smashed Potatoes

I love Garlic!

I keep telling Kris that I'm trying to double check he's not a vampire. Usually if a recipe says "3 cloves of garlic" I take it to mean "5-7 cloves, depending-on-their-size". If you're following a recipe of mine on this blog, assume that you could half the garlic and it would still be delicious.

It's just how I cook.

So when I first made this recipe and it called for a FULL HEAD OF GARLIC, I was excited... but it was too much. about half that will do just fine!

These Garlic "Smashed" Potatoes are completely delicious! Serve as a side to almost any meal for the potato lover in your life and watch them drool... even with only half the garlic.

I served this as a side to my BBQ Maple Salmon dish for my friend's Bachelorette dinner!

It's mid August in Ontario and it's already starting to feel like fall. They're calling it "Augtober"... How depressing!

Here's a little recipe full of great Canadian foods (Salmon, Maple Syrup and BBQ-ing) to help you hold on to the last bit of summer. It's super easy to make and incredibly delicious! It's also fairly healthy as we've swapped the butter out for margarine!

You can also do this meal in the oven if you don't have a barbecue!

Boat Trip to Gilly's

This weekend I have my parents all to myself up north. It's nice, especially now that I don't live at home, to get to spend more one on one time with them.

After a morning of work, organizing and cleaning, we decided that we should take an afternoon trip over to Gilly's for fish and chips!

Fresh Fruit Rolls

A few weeks ago, I made some Vietnamese style fresh shrimp rolls for dinner. It got me to thinking what else I could do with rice wrappers! After a bit of time on Pinterest, I saw photos of someone who used them to make breakfast fruit rolls.

Inspired, I had some time and some fruit today so I decided to make them for brunch.
